A swim belt is one of the many pieces of equipment that has emerged on the scene of water exercise. These have been around in one form or another for years, but they have evolved with time as have many other things. These were first used to help children stay afloat in the water as they were learning to swim and become comfortable in the water. But today that is not the only purpose that they serve.
Swim belts have become a big part of a water workout for many people. I have seen many people at the fitness club I attend wear these belts to keep them afloat as they go through their water exercise routines. Aqua Jogger makes one of the most popular of these swim belts. They come in all sizes. They also make one that easily stores for travel. The AJ CLASSIC for average waisted women has the following features:
• Resilient closed cell foam won’t absorb water, dries quickly, and resists chlorine damage.
• Patented contoured design supports and strengthens the lower back.
• Soft, flexible foam narrows at the waist for comfort and freedom of movement.
• Easy-to-operate quick-release buckle ensures a hassle-free fit.
• Custom-woven elastic belt comfortably moves with every breath and adjusts to fit waist.
• The AquaJogger® design tones the abdominal muscles without doing a single sit-up due to the continual use of abdominal muscles to maintain correct posture.
• To accomodate different body shapes, belt can be worn upside down or with the foam in front of the body.
• Made in USA — Soft, durable, and comfortable
• 48″ black elastic belt will fit up to a 44″ waist. Longer lengths available.
• Foam dimensions: 25 3/4″ length 11 1/2″ width 1 3/8″ thick

This belt retails for about $50. Aqua Jogger products can be found in some stores, but they are not widely available in brick and mortar locations. There are a number of websites that market Aqua Jogger products.
Water exercise has come a long way over the years, especially with the number of baby boomers becoming seniors. Water exercise is joint friendly and lends itself well to individuals that have joint pain.
